Basically distance relay is measure of change in impedance value in between transmission line without fault and transmission line with fault. therefore we introduce the fault in between this zone.
The voltage and current is measured to calculate between zone to calculate the impedance value. Difference between the impedance value without fault and with fault gives fault it is done using the distance relay using phasor measurement unit.
