This image was created using the "mosaic.m" MATLAB file. It takes a picture and samples its average brightness in large rectangles. To create the mosaic, smaller tile images are copied with their respective brightnesses adjusted to reflect that of the original image. The tile image need not be the same as the overall image, although they are for this example. The mosaics look best printed out and viewed from a distance.
