Generating numbers according to a modified Gaussian

4 views (last 30 days)
Hi
I am trying to generate numbers following a probability-distribution given by the 1D Maxwell velocity distribution, which is explained here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maxwell%E2%80%93Boltzmann_distribution#Distribution_for_the_velocity_vector. In the link I am referring to the distribution f(v)dv.
This is just a modified Gaussian distribution. Is there a smart way to accomplish this in MATLAB, perhaps using the built-in generator?
Thanks for any help in advance.
Best, Niles.
