Exporting images from .fig file with transparent background

If I already have a plot figure saved as .fig with a transparent background, how can I export it as a tiff for example so that it only has a transparent Alpha Channel, instead of the white background it is creating automatically?

Render into a frame. Then https://www.mathworks.com/help/matlab/ref/tiff.html Tiff() class, specify Extra Samples as Unassociated Alpha, and provide a complete 4th pane of alpha values (so rows x columns x 4 of data)

In some cases, figuring out what should be transparent is easy, but if for example you had specified axes color 'none' for transparency and wanted the rest of the content to be non-transparent, then figuring out the alpha channel could be a nuisance.
