Why am I unable to uninstall MATLAB Component Runtime?

When trying to uninstall MATLAB Component Runtime, I get the following error:

Could not delete the MCR files

How do I uninstall MATLAB Component Runtime?

If you are running into this error message when uninstalling MCR via Programs and Features, MCR may already be uninstalled. 

Please try checking the MCR installation directory and manually remove the folder if necessary. 

If there is no installation directory, check the MATLAB installation log file to ensure that the uninstallation process has gone through successfully.
