I would like to know if it is possible to borrow licenses in MATLAB Version 7.12.0.635 (R2011a), and how to do this.

Yes it is possible. See http://www.mathworks.com/help/install/license/borrowing-licenses.html

So, according to that link, R2011a is not possible:

Release Family / Run MATLAB® / Borrow Licenses

R14 (and later) / Yes / Yes

R13 / Yes / Not supported

R12 (and earlier) / No / No
