Hi,
I have developed a MATLAB standalone app using the university academic license. I want to know whether the license allows me to share the app as a supplementary software in a research publication.
Thank you,
NG

My personal reading of the license would be that is not permitted, but Mathworks does not agree and says that it is permitted. And since it is their product and not mine, they get to permit it even if I believe they are misinterpreting their own licence.
What would definitely be permitted with an academic license would be sharing the source code. Sharing your own source code is explicitly permitted by the license (but there may be limitations for student licenses)

In my reading of the license terms, Student licenses cannot be used for publication -- not unless publication was a degree requirement (it happens sometimes in PhD programmes.) This definitely applies to monitized YouTube videos that use MATLAB source code that you might have developed using a student license. For non-monitized YouTube videos, my reading of the student license is that it would not be permitted, but Mathworks does not always agree with my interpretation of that clause.
Academic licenses are permitted to publish source code they have developed. However, my reading of the license terms is that Academic licenses cannot distribute executables compiled using MATLAB Compiler except for "internal needs" of the faculty and staff (for example as a student you could write an executable for use within your department.) I consider this term of the license conditions to be pretty clear, but Mathworks does not always agree with me about it for executables that are not being monitized.
In short... best ask Mathworks, giving the details of your situation. Remembering that no matter what the license terms actually say, Mathworks has the authority to permit distribution if they think the cause is a good one.
