@N/A anyone can get a free trial as long as they didn't very recently have one.

There have been posts from Mathworks staff indicating that there are no trials for student licenses.

OK, so don't tell them that. Just say you are an aribtrary individual who would like to try out MATLAB and are not sure what license you may eventually get.

Also, if I understand correctly, in countries that have distributors, you have to go through the distributor to get the trial license.
