Dear sir,
i know about the concepts of fem.but approaching this concepts in matlab is slightly difficult i feel.pls guide me how to find the natural frequency of a cantilever beam using fem approach.
I tried a lengthy procedure to assemble the mass and stiffness matrices for 5 elements with 12by12 matrices, but it gives the frequency of even numbers, like second mode, fourth, sixth, and 8th.
pls sir guide me to got all the frequencies, and how to give the boundary conditions in matlab for the same case of cantilever, then the last one is how to use the loops here for n no of elements.i tried for 5 elements only with individual value given to the problem.

I recommend you start with this document

"A short Matlab implementation for P1-Q1 finite elements"

http://www.math.hu-berlin.de/~cc/download/public/software/documentation/acf.pdf

It contains a 50 lines only Matlab program that implements FEM.

If you study the paper and the code, you should be all set.
