Students are introduced to the problem solving method in the lecture component of the course, while in lab they practice using MATLAB syntax by solving simple problems. Homework and projects allow students to use MATLAB to solve more complex, open-ended problems. The flexibility of the software allows professors to create interesting, authentic engineering problems. By using MATLAB, students can focus on problem solving rather than coding, a skill that proves useful in upper-level classes and industry.
