Yes, now I know that it's not upto the standards. And it's mainly because I'm a beginner. Obviously, your code is the best! All I'll try to do next is to keep in mind the standards and try to make my code easier, simple, fast and upto the standards before submitting them here.

Improvements are always welcome in the FEX. And of course I will update my voting, when a following version of your submission is more efficient and usable - while it is sufficiently useful already, because a check for uniqueness is required frequently.
So I hope, you are encouraged to share more of your work.

Ok, thanks for the answer. Then the help text of the file is still misleading, the algorithm is complicated and slow.
The program works, it has a help text, which does not follow the Matlab standards (e.g. no H1 line, no See also, no exact definition of inputs and outputs).
I would not use this submission for real work or to educate beginners, but recommend the much cheaper and nicer:
isuniq = all(diff(sort(X(:))))

Not a good example of good programming!

You can do exactly the same with:

X = double(X);
Y = double(Y);
m = sum((X(:)-Y(:)).^2) / prod(size(X));
psnr = 10*log10(255*255/m);

However, instead of assuming the peak is 255, you should use max(X(:)) as the peak.
