MATLAB codes for canopy image analysis
These codes were used in preparation of manuscript Korhonen, L. & Heikkinen, J. 2009. Automated analysis of in situ canopy images for the estimation of forest canopy cover, Forest Science 55(4): 323-334. The codes can be used to threshold skyward-looking canopy images with a edge-detection based method by Nobis & Hunziker (2005), and to separate of within- and between-crown gaps with morphological operations. Finally percentage of black pixels is calculated. More information: cccodes.htm (included in the zip file).
