Why does the HDF5READ function return zero values when reading floating-point data in MATLAB 7.0 (R14)?

When I use the HDF5READ function in MATLAB 7.0 (R14) to read floating-point data from files created with the NCSA library version 5-1.4.5-post2, the function does not return any error messages.
However, when I inspect the imported data, all the values are zero.

This bug has been fixed in Release 14 Service Pack 3 (R14SP3). For previous product releases, read below for any possible workarounds:
We have verified that there is a bug in the HDF5READ function in the way that it reads files generated with the NCSA library version 5-1.4.5-post2.
There are currently no known workarounds.
