Why do the Emacs key bindings not appear in the menus in the Editor/Debugger in MATLAB 7.0 (R14) when there is no file open?

I set the preferences for the Editor/Debugger to use Emacs key bindings. However, if I close the file, but not the Editor/Debugger, then look at a menu item, the key bindings are no longer Emacs key bindings.

This bug has been fixed in Release 14 Service Pack 3 (R14SP3). For previous product releases, read below for any possible workarounds:
This problem has been fixed in MATLAB 7.0.1 (R14SP1).
There are no known workarounds for previous versions.
