how to get final images after doing the segmentation so that I can hold the image to find the distance? and what algorithm (coding) that I can use?

I'm doing a research to determine the distance of buccal cortical. Here, i want to do the segmentation of the tooth and hold the image so that i can use an algorithm to find the distance. what is the possible solutions that can use for the research? thanks.

I have no idea what "hold the image" means. Why not use imdistline() or improfile()? Or find distances from the binary image using regionprops()?
