Matlab Installation for Mac Won't Run

Hello,
I can't seem to get Matlab running on my mac. When I open the file in the installation folder, the "Install for Mac OS X" icon just bobs up and down in my system tray. If I right click the icon, it simply says "not responding".
Because of this I can't even start the Matlab installation. I've tried leaving it for a long period of time and the most I got was a quick flash of the "Matlab" logo - then the icon disappeared and nothing happened.
For reference, I'm running a new 2012 Macbook Pro Mountain Lion OS X 10.8. I have XQuartz installed and I'm sure it's working properly because I use it almost daily for work.
I'm trying to run the student version of Matlab R2013a.
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
Dan
