What do you mean by "read"? Are you talking about Mfiles( .m extension) or files with the .mat extension? If it's the first case, what does it mean to search for the value of u_vec(9).. is its content hardcoded, e.g. you have somewhere u_vec(9)=27 written and you want to find 27 without having to run the code (e.g. by text pattern matching)?

In your matlab editor there is an icone called find files, use it to find all the m files that contains u_vec(9)

You can read all your m-file with fgetl function and use regexp function to locate u_vec(9)
