How can I add a date vector for the x-axis of a normal plot?

Dear all,
I have a 3000*2 matrix. In column 1 is the date, but the date was transformed with the command datenum, and in the second column is the data. So when I plot the data, I want the date, which is in the first column, on the x-axis. The date had bfore the transformation with datenum the format: 'dd.mm.yyy HH:MM:SS'. So I want that the first of every sixth month is on the x-axis. For example 01.01.2004, then 01.06.2004 and so...How can I do that? Thank you in advance!
