How can perform Face Normalization on MATLAB?

I am working on a face recognition project. As we know that Normalization is a step in the face recognition process. In Normalization, the lighting changes caused by light sources, light intensity, non-rigid deformations of the face (from muscular actuation etc) are cater for. An individual's identity, however, is captured by the small variations alone and is not specified by the variance due to the large rigid body motion and illumination of the face. Thus, it is necessary to compensate or normalize a face for position and illumination so that the variance due to these is minimized. So i need to know that how to perform this step? If a sample code can be provided that could be much helpful.
