SimScape - Delay Mass/Vecocity Input

Hello,
I'm building an air/oil damper model and using a mass with initial velocity in order to run my tests. However, I need the damper to reach steady state before I subject it to a mass w/velocity input. If I check 'start simulation from steady state' in the solver, then I do not see the response from my input. What I'm trying to do is simply use a step input, so say after a delay of 1 second, the mass w/velocity is applied to the damper. That way, any settling of internal pressure and damper stiffness will have time to reach equilibrium.
I tried adding a step input to a summing junction with mass, however the signal types are Simulink and physical respectively, so that does not work.
Your thoughts?

It looks like you should connect a Force Actuator to the Mass. That way you will be able to feed it a step at any desired time, once the transient is passed.
When you select "start form steady state", the simulation will start with no motion. Steady state means that the derivative of all states should be zero.
