Black area when opening 3D World Editor

When I open the 3D world editor, it just shows a black rectangle in the place where the 3D visualization should have appeared. Everything else is normal.
I'm running Matlab 2012a on Lubuntu 10.10. 766MB RAM, No OpenGL renderer detected by the operating system. I've never tried this on Windows.

Please try switching to software OpenGL. Type
opengl software
as the first command after starting MATLAB, then open 3D World Editor. If this makes any difference, your OpenGL driver does not work correctly. Try to find a hardware-accelerated one for your operating system. You can also stay with (slower) software OpenGL.
