Opening Matlab, claim that X11 is not installed

On this computer (OS X version 10.8.2 - Mountain Lion) , I have R2008b installed (permanent license). I get a message: "X11 does not appear to be installed .. X11 version 1.1.3 or greater is required". Actually, X11 is installed, latest version from XQuatz in /opt/X11. Apparently Matlab doesn't find it. Could you suggest a solution. Thanks,
Roger Wets

R2008b is not supported under Mountain Lion. Even R2012b is not officially supported but should be "close".

Open XQuartz first and from the xterm run matlab (just type "matlab" + return)

Hi Julian, I have the same problem, and I tried your solution and I get an error: null See the log file (/var/folders/g8/zxc5j5g14ld5xzs_jxbxlvww0000gp/T/aws.log) for more details. And when I go to the log file, I get a bunch of error codes I don't understand, but I have saved them in the attached file. If you can shed any light on this, it would be most helpful. Thanks! Brian
