Would anyone happen to know what MCR version is for Release 2012b?
I've been using 2012a which is MCR version 7.17, and am trying to make the decision of whether to move up 2012b, but don't want to be in a situation where I'm compiling applications that use two different MCR's.
I checked the compatability list ( http://www.mathworks.com/support/solutions/en/data/1-4GSNCF/index.html) but it doesn't appear to have been updated yet.
Thanks.

Like you, I don't want to compile under different versions. The MCR with R2012b has been updated. I just installed it on one computer and used it today with one of my compiled apps. The MCR version is 8.0.
Unfortunately it would install at all on another computer (just quits with no error, no confirmation, and nothing installed), so we have the Mathworks chasing down that issue.
[ Added] Mathworks says that if you tried to install the MCR and it installs the Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 redistributable and then exits after that, without installing the MCR, then you need to reboot and install the MCR again. This time it should install normally. Apparently it needs a reboot but neither installer ever notifies you. :-(

Every MATLAB release uses a different MCR.
I do not know, though, what they have numbered the MCR for the R2012b release.
