I am quite sure that this information is not accessible by users.

Lucas is correct, but "quick enough" is 30 days. It can be tedious to search more than a few pages, though.

Do the "Recent Activities" have a useful purpose?

I use Recent Activities most days. And as I do, I'm usually saying to myself, "You call that a firehose? Cuz I don't!"

But yes, I find it useful. Helps track the meta actions, the closures, the flags, the votes. And Sure, if I see that one of the people I know to be knowledgeable has answered something I don't know the solution to myself, I am more likely to read the Question and responses. Helps maximize my time investment.
