cutoff value for data

hi all

how do you usually pick the best cutoff frequency? is it possible to make a loop that will run the program many times and use different frequencies to find the best cutoff frequency? how could that be done?

or how to figure the best frequency for data thats noisy? thank you!

That is application specific. Often you have a priori information about the frequency range that you are interested in. For example, you might filter a speech signal between 100 and 3-4 kHz because you know you can get intelligible speech with that range.

Another way is by exploratory spectral analysis to see where the features "live" that you are interested in.
