Matlab R14 Will Not Start (Windows XP SP2 x86)

1 view (last 30 days)
Hello all,
I am having trouble with my Matlab R14 installation, and would greatly appreciate any help! The program will not load even as far as the splash screen before Matlab.exe spontaneously exits. Using Task Manager, I see it load about 21MB of memory before this crash.
I have already tried using the "matlab.exe -nojvm" startup option, as well as updating my Java version. Reinstalling Matlab doesn't help, either.
My system is a rather aged Athlon XP 3000+ running Windows XP SP2.
Thank you in advance for your help, Melvin

Re Jan: Yes, I did check that link, and have had to apply that hotfix on another PC in the past. Unfortunately it wasn't the problem here.
But, I did find my answer. I've been suspicious that my PC was infected with a virus. My Avira install wasn't detecting anything, so I loaded AVG instead. It found some malicious bug called "arking.exe" in my windows folder, which on reboot it deleted. Now Matlab launches fine!
Who knows what was going on, or why a virus would choose to terminate Matlab.exe, but at least the problem seems fixed.
Thanks!
