Matlab 2013a Student Edition OSX Yosemite help

Hi guys, I know many people have already posted this, but there post didn't help my situation. So I updated to Yosemite and when I tried to use Matlab it said its not compatible. So I downloaded the patch and tried to install it but when it came time to locate the root folder it asked for I couldn't locate it. Frustrated I deleted Matlab completely from my computer and decided to re downloaded it thinking that the patch would be installed. After downloading I tried to install and now it won't install at all it just keeps telling me to download java which I have. Any steps or help would really be appreciated it. Im a student and use matlab on a daily basis for my engineering classes and projects.
