Import dataset with .XLS file containing formulae

Reading an Excel with formulae for numeric values into a dataset results in those variables being interpreted as cell strings instead of the numeric result. Is there any way around this other than having to manually then convert field by field or convert the spreadsheet to values only? Either option is doable but not particularly palatable.
'Format' is not accepted with the 'XLSfile' to try to give dataset some help, unfortunately.
OBTW, I'm at R2012b owing to the machine here is about snowed under by it for performance so haven't tried later, even larger releases.

I was using R2014b, so I do not think it's a version thing. It's worth noting that I actually find 14b a bit faster than 12b. I do not have any numbers for that claim, but just saying that your machine might be ok with the newer/newest versions.
Have no had a chance to play around with the formula above yet.

...but just saying that your machine might be ok with the newer/newest versions.
How much memory do you have, though?
I will probably try the download at some point; just that am deeply involved in this analysis for the college foundation at the moment wherein this ? came up as is obvious from the formula variables so don't want to take the time at the moment...
Anyways, thanks for taking a look when get around...I've got a working workaround so it's not critical.
