how can I simulate the propagation of electromagnetic wave in 3D?

I have an assignment to sole these problems, but I am not familiar with Matlab at all. Please show me how to simulate (1) the rotation of the of the original polarization by 90 degree (2) the generation of left-circularly polarized light (3)the generation of an elliptically polarized light ray
