Why am I unable to resume a cluster on Amazon EC2 using the MathWorks cloud center?

1 view (last 30 days)
I am attempting to resume an old cluster on Amazon EC2 that I have not used for some time. When I attempt to start the cluster I receive an error stating "Cluster Startup Error: An error occurred starting MATLAB Parallel Server on one or more of the cluster nodes. Try again or contact technical support for assistance." How do I resolve this issue?

This issue can be resolved by deleting the old cluster and creating a new cluster. To delete the old cluster:
  • Navigate to https://cloudcenter.mathworks.com/
  • Log into your MathWorks account.
  • Click "My Clusters" Which will be on the upper left hand side of the page.
  • Click delete to the right of the old cluster.
Once that has been completed you can create a new cluster by clicking "Create a Cluster" which is right below the "My Clusters" link. From there configure your new cluster and click the create cluster button.
If you are still unable to resolve the issue by the steps above, contact the Installation and Licensing Team by creating a Service Request here:

  • NOTE: Starting in R2019a the following name changes occurred:
    • MATLAB Distributed Computing Server was renamed to MATLAB Parallel Server
    • mdce_def was renamed to mjs_def
    • mdce binary was renamed to mjs

I don't think this is all that helpful. Just deleting the cluster is the obvious approach but only if you do not care about resuming the cluster. The question would not have been asked if the person did not care about resuming the cluster.
The response needs to be enhanced with some actual strategies for resuming a cluster in this situation, or some strategies for migration of data inside old clusters to inside new ones. Or else there needs to be an explicit statement that the situation is fubar and cannot be rescued.
