Why do I get Java exception java.lang.NoSuchMethodError: javax.media.opengl.GLCapabilities when using CFTOOL in the Curve Fitting Toolbox 3.4 (R2013b)?

I'm trying to use cftool to fit a simple data set with a line. The App finds a fit but the plot window in the App is empty. Also, I get these error messages in my MATLAB command window:

This is a bug in the Curve Fitting Toolbox R2013b which is caused due to some other version of JOGL shadowing the one installed by MATLAB.
The workaround for this issue can be found here:https://www.mathworks.com/support/bugreports/1084573
