Convert a character into a pixel matrix

Hi,
I need a function that converts a text character into a pixel matrix.
The reason is that I need to create a toolbar with uipushtools that are marked with integer numbers, so I need to convert the character that represents an integer number into a 16x16 matrix that I can then feed into to CData property of the uipushtool
Of course, the ideal solution would be to have uipushtool-like tool in a toolbar in which instead of a CData one could pass a string, but.... well, I don't see how.
Thanks for any advice! D.

If you have a recent version of MATLAB with the Computer Vision System Toolbox, you can use the insertText() function.
