Please write your equation in MATLAB format. The current form is ambiguous. For example is it ln(x-1) or ln(x)-1 ? Why is there an "=" before the ln ?

Generate an array of all the x values you expect the root to lie within. Then, fnzeros should help you out.

Hi, You can use the MatLab symbolic tool to solve the equation. If I've understood well, You wanto to solve the equation x^3-5x^2-2cos2x-lnx+1=0: syms x % symbolic variable x
EQ=x^3-5*x^2-2*cos(2*x)-log(x)+1; % equation to be solved
solution=solve(EQ) % solve the solution
