I have 2012a 32 bit on my machine. I would like to test 2014a 64 bit. Can I have both on my computer, or do I need to delete/overwrite 2012a to install 2014a?

In general, YES, you can have multiple versions of MATLAB installed on the same machine. You do not have to uninstall one before installing the other. In fact, I highly recommend leaving all versions of MATLAB that you have access to installed on the machine just in case code compatability issues arise that you need to debug.
