How should data be prepared for system identification?

1 view (last 30 days)
I'm going to do some experiments and use the data from the experiments in system identification(SI) toolbox. In MATLAB's dryer example in SI toolbox, the input data is provided by many impulse responses with the same magnitude. My question is how should the data be sampled? Does it have to be only impulse? if yes, does it have to be with the same magnitude? Or, it can be any random inputs?

Please take a look at this section of the doc, it may help.
