MATLAB2013a: License Manager Error -15 - How to remove License Manager from autostart on MacOS 10.9.2 system?

Hello community,
I installed MATLAB 2013a on my laptop running MacOS 10.9. My institute has a site license and in order to use MATLAB I have to connect to my license server. Everything works just great when I am connected to the internet on campus or via VPN. However, MATLAB seems to perform a license check immediately after system startup, resulting in annoying "License Manager Error -15" messages greeting me whenever I start my machine not on campus or (BEWARE!) offline. I would much prefer MATLAB to check the license when I actually start the program.
So far I have been unable to switch off the license check at system startup or to find some useful documentation on this topic. There should be some elegant way, I am sure.
Can anyone give me a hint, please?
