What is the difference between the rectangular and the hamming window when using fir1 function? so what is the advantage and the disadvantages for each of them? I'm not sure if for a certain application one is better than another
thanks for helping

I would definitely not use the rectangular window in the FIR filter window method. The point of using a window is to smoothly truncate the ideal impulse response to avoid the discontinuity (and high sidelobe behavior) you get with a rectangular window.

You may have right but in my simulation i find it strange that a rectwin window gives a very good results in term of filtring for my physiological signals (action potential). i'm that that comes from and artfact :S. what do u think about it ?

I'm not sure what this means: "i'm that that comes from and artfact :S. what do u think about it ?"
Can you please show exactly how you are designing your FIR filter using the window method?
