how to embed an active map axes (axesm) in excel?

hello
in order to avoid using other platform (bing map /google map addins) due to the maping limitations and size of data, and to make full use of the mapping functions in matlab, I am trying to embed an active map axes into an excel spreadsheet.
by active, I mean I would like it to be interactive as if it were a matlab figure, not an image . (get cursor coordinates on click, add polygons, etc..). basically im looking for an axesm activex control (similar to the one in guide) for excel.
is there any way this could be done at all?
I am running Ex spreadsheet link between Excel2013pro and r2013 and link functions are working fine.
worst case solution will be to display the matlab axesm figure window restored to predefined size/location on the screen, overlapping the already open excel window... and somehow freeze both window locations...? ...possible?
would appreciate any help or pointers..
thanks! k
