Intermittent error in displaying a 3D model using patch

Why do I sometimes get error (see image) in displaying a 3D model using patch() command? If this error occurs, sometimes if I just rotate the model around, it will disappear. But sometimes this error persists.
Any idea how to solve this? My MATLAB version is R2012a.
I never got this error in MATLAB R14.
