Why can't I print a color figure in black and white with a white background in MATLAB 6.5 (R13)?
I have a color figure that I want to print in black and white with a white background, but when I go to print it, both the print preview and the printout has my figure in color with a gray background. I specifically set "Figure window printing" to "Always send as black and white" and checked that the "Lines and text" was set to "Black and white" in the Page Setup dialog box, but I still get a color figure. (I have also checked that in the Page Setup dialog box for "Axes and Figure" that I choose "Force white background" and that InvertHardCopy was set to On, but I still get a gray background when I print and in the Print Preview window.)
How do I create a black and white figure with a white background?

This bug has been fixed in Release 14 Service Pack 3 (R14SP3). For previous product releases, read below for any possible workarounds:
This behavior has been forwarded to our development staff for further investigation.
As a workaround, you can try to explicitly change the properties of your printer, so the figure prints in black and white. From the figure, choose File -- > Print -- > Properties -- > Color (Choose as appropriate).
