Why does the HDF5READ function return a matrix of zeros when reading an HDF5 file in MATLAB 7.0 (R14)?

The HDF5READ function returns a matrix of zeros when reading certain HDF5 files in MATLAB 7.0 (R14). These same HDF5 files could be read successfully in earlier releases of MATLAB.

This bug has been fixed in Release 14 Service Pack 3 (R14SP3). For previous product releases, read below for any possible workarounds:
We have verified that there is a bug in MATLAB 7.0 (R14) in the way that the HDF5READ function handles certain HDF5 files.
There are currently no known workarounds.
