Why am I unable to run the demos for Link for ModelSim 1.1 (R13SP1) with the Simulink/ModelSim co-simulation running in shared-memory mode?

I have experienced this problem intermittently having run the VISM command with the manchester receiver models, pressing the play button usually gives me the following error message:
Error reported by S-function 'smtifli' in block
'manchestermodelcommblks/VHDL Manchester Receiver':
Failed to connect to server. Make sure the loaded ModelSim model is using
shared memory
I am using a laptop with Windows XP. I did not experience this issue on my previous laptop running Windows 2000. I have Modelsim SE 5.8a installed on both.

This bug has been fixed for Release 14 SP1 (R14SP1). For previous releases, please read below for any possible workarounds:
This has been verified as a bug in Link for ModelSim 1.1 (R13SP1) in the way that it handles co-simulation running in shared-memory mode.
Currently, to work around this issue, try un-checking the shared memory option and sending it through TCP/IP even though ModelSim is on the same machine.
