Why do I receive a License Manager Error -16, when my directory for the network license manager is very long?

14 views (last 30 days)
I installed the network license manager into a directory with a very long path name, (i.e. D:\MATLABS\MATLAB_Distributed_Computing\DCT_Engine_Installation\flexlm) and upon starting the license manager, I get a license manager error -16.
The log file entry is as follows:
Vendor daemon can't talk to lmgrd (Cannot read data from license server system. (-16,287))

This bug has been fixed in Release 2009b (R2009b). For previous product releases, read below for any possible workarounds:
The only known workaround for this error is to move the installation to a directory with a shorter path (i.e. C:\flexlm).
  • NOTE: Starting in R2019a the following name changes occurred:
  • MATLAB Distributed Computing Server was renamed to MATLAB Parallel Server
  • mdce_def was renamed to mjs_def
  • mdce binary was renamed to mjs
